Chuncheon Medical Center
This project takes place in the city of Chuncheon in South Korea. The Chuncheon Medical Center is not an ordinary healthcare facility, it is designed as a space where architecture actively supports the healing process. Rooted in the principles of archi-therapy, the building reduces stress, offers clarity of movement, and provides a sense of calm and comfort. It introduces a new vision for neighborhood healthcare — one that brings together medical care and emotional well-being through thoughtful, human-centered design.

A Light-Driven Design
A vertical void sits at the core of the building, capturing and diffusing natural light. The white façade and silk-screened glass reflect light like a geometric mineral form, both sharp and soft.
Stacked modular volumes form the structure, creating a balance between clarity and permeability, allowing air, light, and views to flow. The result is a space that is both protective and open, a delicate balance essential in healthcare environments.
A Care-Centered Planning
The spatial layout is designed to balance privacy and openness. Medical areas are placed in quiet, secure zones to ensure a calm environment, while public functions like the reception, retail, and auditorium remain open and easily accessible. A central glass elevator connects these spaces, serving not only as a circulation core but also as a sensory experience bringing in natural light, offering views, and supporting the project’s therapeutic atmosphere.
A Civic Healthcare Prototype
The building is organized vertically in a clear and intuitive way. The underground levels are dedicated to parking and technical services. The ground and second floors host neighborhood shops. The third floor welcomes visitors with a medical reception, waiting area and auditorium. The fourth floor is home to rehabilitation facilities. The fifth to eighth floors are occupied by medical clinics and doctors’ offices. At the top, the rooftop offers a calm space for rest and relaxation. This vertical layout ensures smooth transitions between public and private areas, creating a gentle passage from the city to the world of care.
A New Model for Urban Healthcare
The Chuncheon Medical Center presents a human-centered vision for neighborhood healthcare. Here, architecture goes beyond simply accommodating functions, it gives them meaning, clarity, and presence. The project stands as a prototype for future medical spaces in Korea and beyond, where the quality of space is seen as a vital part of the healing process.
